Rick-

Ok, I got it working with uncompressed files. There is something with the zlib on my system (Fedora 8) which is not working properly.

I changed nifti_fileexists() to use fopen() instead of znzopen() and now I can read .nii and .hdr/.img files. At least this will let me finish my implementation.
