Rick-

Sorry, got busy..

The problem is with how IDL itself uses zlib, and the fact that it is statically linked to a specific version. This is a solvable problem, eventually, but for the time being I think I'll just release the extension as-is for uncompressed files.

When the code is posted on our site I will post here with a link should anyone want to try working with it.
