Most major software packages have agreed to fully support NIfTI-1 over the coming 1-2 years. This an important aspect of the NIfTI-1 format, and will facilitate interoperability between these packages. The details of the agreed support and the details of its timing can be found below:
- FSL Version 3.2 (released October 2004) : supports full reading and writing of both NIfTI-1 and Analyze formats. Several features of the NIfTI-1 format are currently not supported, including qforms and left-handed ("neurologically-ordered") data. More details on the level of support can be found here.
- MINC 1.4 (future release) : will support conversion to and from NIfTI-1. All MINC programs will still require that files be converted to MINC format before processing.
- PLSgui provides limited NIFTI-1 support from early 2005 with tools for NIFTI
image in MATLAB, to load, save, make and view NIFTI images. More details on the leve of support can be found here.
- SPM5b (the beta release of SPM5) now supports input and output of NIfTI-1.1 files. This addition is fairly recent (May 2005), so there may still be some bugs. The SPM authors hope to include more extensive support of other NIFTI fields in the final SPM5 release. More details on the level of support can be found here.
